Over the last several years, we've been successful in
✓Mandating employers not ask about arrests or convictions until determining someone is otherwise qualified for the job;
✓Working with a coalition to mandate school breakfast be served after the bell in high-poverty schools, so all kids can start the school day properly nourished;
✓Completely rewriting laws governing therapeutic courts (drug court, veteran’s courts, mental health courts, etc.) to encourage more such courts be created to divert people from the criminal justice system. (SB 5107 - 2015)
✓Raising state-funded public defense attorney salaries to be closer to prosecutor salaries, while previously having prevented budget cuts in public defense & drug courts as the state slashed $10.6 billion in spending
✓Removing the threat of automatic deportation for legal aliens who commit petty offenses
✓Expanding incentives for people who want to go into the teaching profession
✓Assuring all teachers entering the profession meet the same high standards
✓Shaping state-level education “reform” policy
✓Strengthening oversight of the state crime laboratories
✓Restoring the right to vote for people who’ve paid their debt to society
✓Protecting whistle blowers from retaliation in the workplace
✓Change in state policy regarding nuclear waste
✓Advancing the concept of state-controlled medical decisions
✓Re-including people with felony drug convictions in public assistance, and
✓Fighting for the rights of public employees called to military service.

Our Company
Mr. Cooper has lived in Seattle, Spokane, and Vancouver, and travels frequently across the state, giving him a whole-state perspective.
In addition to the legislation detailed on the “Success” page, he has prompted creation of a state advisory committee, was elected by his peers to chair another state advisory committee, and has been a member of a national policy advisory committee for a major hunger relief organization.
His work has generated millions of dollars in new funding.
He has also created and helped execute major public relations campaigns; managed or collaborated on major research projects; and is an award-winning former journalist.
